Some shoes just cost way too much money, and some people are willing to drop big bucks on dressing up their feet. Thousands of dollars can be spent on a single pair of stilettos or sneakers. That’s right, sneakers. The types of shoes that are used primarily for playing basketball are one of the most expensive out there. The most exclusive pairs will never even see the court, let alone be worn on someones feet.
You will notice a trend when it comes to the most expensive sneakers ever sold. Most of them have to do with a certain former Chicago Bull that won six NBA championships. You might be able to guess who it is, but just in case you can’t, it’s Michael Jordan.
So, these are the 3 most crazy expensive sneakers ever sold.
#3 – Air Jordan 12 ($100,000)
We mentioned Drake earlier and how someone sold the Air Jordan 10’s that they received from the rapper for $20,000. This is the other pair that Drake gave away, this time to a woman on the other side of the stadium from the Air Jordan 10 recipient. This woman also went online and provided the evidence that Drake graced the presence of these shoes.
Not only did she sell these shoes (which are newer, by the way), but she was able to get five times as much. We’re not sure if Drake has some sort of mystical wizard powers that make his shoes more valuable, but people were willing to pay a combined $120,000 for two pairs that Drake never even wore and only had in his possession for a few minutes.
#2 – Air Jordan 12 Worn By Michael Jordan During “Flu Game” ($104,000)
One of the most infamous basketball games of all time was when Michael Jordan carried the Bulls in the 1997 finals despite having the flu. Against the Utah Jazz, Jordan was able to drop 38 points to help secure the Bulls a victory and another NBA Championship. The shoes were the centerpiece of the magical game and went up for sale at auction.
The person that sold the shoes was a ball boy during that game who gave Jordan some applesauce to make him feel better. Jordan was so grateful that he handed the shoes over to him, and the young man sold them nearly two decades down the road for six figures. That’s a pretty good return on investment for just a cup of applesauce.
#1 – Air Yeezy 2 Red October ($17 Million)
When Kanye West (who is known for sporting many different expensive sneakers) was releasing a new album, he wanted the perfect sneaker to go along with it. West (who refers to himself as Yeezy sometimes) developed the Air Yeezy 2 Red October edition with Nike. When the shoe released, it sold out almost instantaneously.
Pairs were going up for sale on eBay, and many people were left wondering what was legitimate and what was a fraud. There was one pair of real ones that went up on the site and bidders outdid themselves by getting it up to $17 million. No word on whether or not the person that won ever paid for the shoes, but that’s a lot of scratch just to wear the same shoes as Kanye West.
